Streets, Transit and Safe Routes

Streets and transit are not ends in themselves; they are how people reach the life of the city. Portland should build and maintain them in service of the city we want to become.

I would complete the Safe Routes priority network around every District 4 elementary school within one Council term by funding the projects Portland has already identified.

Portland can’t make its transit system remarkable by treating it as just a transportation and ridership-numbers problem. TriMet needs places that large numbers of people need and want to reach, and downtown is the place our regional transit system is already built to serve.

At the same time, we need to reinvent downtown as a place where people work, live, shop, create things and go out. A dramatic and ambitious step in tht direction is my Grid-Connected Core plan.
